12/7 Newsletter


Upcoming Events:
  • December 2-9 3rd grade Service Learning Project Please bring in mittens and place them on the Christmas tree in your hallway.  Third grade will collect them daily.  Bring in mittens to keep somebody warm!
  • December 18- Boys Kiwanis Championship Game
  • December 18- Classroom Parties
  • December 19-January 4: Winter Break
Attention Parents:
*We go out for recess if the wind chill is above 20 and if it is not raining. Please encourage your student to dress appropriately. We will not keep students inside.

Mrs. Shultz’s classroom is available from 7:20 am to 7:50 am Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday. Students who need extra reading time or help with homework are welcome.

Mrs. Cornelius

Science
We will begin our unit over Landforms & Bodies of Water.  This unit also talks about water conservation, pollution, and erosion.

Math
Monday and Tuesday we will be doing our Math benchmark assessment.  This is setup very similar to our end of the year assessment.  The test will show us (and the kids) how well they are doing on the topics taught so far, as well as what areas each student needs to be working on. (This test is not for a grade).
Wednesday we will be taking our Star Math Test.
Mr. Siders
Science
We will begin our unit over Landforms & Bodies of Water.  This unit also talks about water conservation, pollution, and erosion.

Math
This week students will be working with long-division with 2-digit divisors
(ex. 457 / 17 & 3216 / 48).
Students will also be learning exponents ( 4 to the 3rd power) and square roots (Square root of 81 = 9).

HOMEWORK:
Students have an 18pt homework assignment over adding and subtracting decimals as well as comparing decimals.  This is due back by Thursday.

Science:
We will begin our unit over Landforms & Bodies of Water.  This unit also talks about water conservation, pollution, and erosion.

Math:
This week in math we will be learning about rounding decimal numbers to the thousandths. Students will also extend their understanding of multi-digit multiplication by multiplying 3 digit by 2 digit numbers as well as decimal numbers.


Please be looking for rocket facts to come home with your student to study. Any student who has completed all facts by Dec. 10 will get pizza or ice cream :)

Homework will be due on Thursday, Dec. 11 and is worth 15 points.
ELA INFO ON BACK

ELA:
Engelbrecht: This week we will be wrapping up Unit 2 and beginning Unit 3
  • Language: Reference Sources
  • Reading: This week we will be reading about Walk Two Moons and focus on inferencing. BOOK LOGS DUE MONDAY!!! WORTH 5 POINTS!
  • AR: Student should be around 90% of their goal depending on what they are currently reading by Friday. Next week we will be finishing our read aloud and our literature circle book. Together they are worth 16 points. Keep that in mind when looking at the AR report in Monday folders. Students need to be at their goal on or before December 18th.
Sandusky:
  • Reading Logs due Friday, with parent signature. Students who turn in reading logs will be getting awarded with Dojo Points, if they do not they will owe the following Fun Friday.
  • Wrapping up Unit 2 this week, jumping right into Unit 3. Unit 3’s essential question is “How does literature provide insight into a culture?”, and it focuses around Native Americans. We will be watching Brainpops on different cultures around the world.
  • Research papers will be coming home later this week graded, please be looking for those to go over with your child.
  • Make sure your child is reading at home, AR goals are due next week!
Shultz:
  • Last week for book log and extra credit for 2nd Quarter.
  • Reading: We are starting a new novel study on the book, The Sign of the Beaver. This was a 3rd grade read aloud, so it should allow us to have more opportunity to dive into our standard of RL5.6 to draw inferences and conclusions from the text.
  • Language and writing: We are completing our essays which will be a large part of our language grade. We are also working on catching up on conventions the parts of speech: conjunctions, prepositions, and interjections..
  • AR: Students should be at 100% of their goals by December 17.
