Extra Clothes!
Spring is a muddy time of the year! The nurses office would appreciate your help. We would appreciate it if you could send in an extra pair of pants and shirt to keep in your student’s backpack.
Science:
This week we are finishing up electricity and electrical circuits.

We are less than 1 month away from the Science part of the MAP test.  The topic below is the last topic we are planning to cover before that time.

Interactions of Organisms
  • Food Webs, Food Chains, Hibernating, Hibernation, & Migrating

We will spend about 1 week of review going over all topics covered so far this year prior to taking the MAP test.

With the end of the Quarter approaching, please be looking for missing assignments to come home and have students complete and return them as soon as possible.

Students will be working on Mother’s and Father’s day essays during morning work. We will turn these into the Leader Journal for publication in May/June. Feel free to assist at home!
ELA:
Engelbrecht:
  • We will be comparing and contrasting the overall structure (e.g., chronology, comparison, cause/effect, problem/solution) of events, ideas, concepts, or information in two or more texts.
  • We will begin our DARE essays.
  • AR 94% of goal by Friday
  • READING LOGS DUE Monday!!!

Sandusky:
  • Wrote our American Symbolism poem on Monday
  • Continuing with our Civil War Unit, using the fictional books “Sweet Clara and the Freedom Quilt”, “Follow the Drinking Gourd”, “Ballad of the Civil War”; we will be comparing story elements and character traits in these books. For informational standards we will be using the book “What is the Battle of Gettysburg?” and answering explicit text and inferencing questions in regards to historical events.
  • Exit slips this week will be in informational reading, and we will have a mini lesson on comparatives and superlatives.

Shultz:
  • Reading: Drawing conclusions/Inferencing and Read aloud with characterization
  • Language: DARE essays
  • Homework: Back to book logs this week. Homework is reading.
  • AR: Students should be at 100% of their goal by the end of this week.

  • The 5th grade play will be rescheduled for April due to the snow days

Water Bottles
Research shows that students who stay hydrated perform better! Students are encouraged to bring a water bottle to school if possible.
Science:
  • This will be our final full week on the unit for Space and the Solar System.
  • Test Review in Class on Wednesday.
  • Unit Test will be on Thursday.
Study Guide
  • Go to my website at

  • The online flashcards are is the study guide.

  • Any student who makes a hard copy set of flashcards to match the ones on my website will receive 5% extra credit on Thursday’s test.
  • Writing the flashcards and using them to study is extremely helpful.  On average, over 95% of my students who make and use the flashcards are able to get an A on their test.

  • Reading Behind Rebel Lines we will be reviewing text structure, inferences, summarizing, and quoting accurately from a text.
  • Reviewing root words, prefixes, and suffixes.
  • AR 70% of goal by Friday
  • In writing we will be continuing our civil war character and writing to historical fiction prompts pretending to be that character.
  • READING LOGS DUE Monday!!  
Sandusky:
  • Civil War Informational Text sheet due Wednesday
  • Reading Logs due Friday 27th with Parent Signature
  • We are beginning our Civil War Journals; students are responsible for making these up outside of class time if they are absent. This ongoing project will be taking place of an essay for Unit 4. Students will be expected to respond to the prompt using correct grammatics and conventions. A grade will be given at the END of the Unit.

Shultz:
  • Reading: our focus is historical nonfiction. Currently, we are reading about the Aztec empire of Tenochtitlan. Our read aloud is Dear America, the Diary of Clotee, a Slave Girl
  • Language: we will be working on prepositions and reviewing conjunctions.
  • Homework: reading and book log.
  • AR: Students should be at 62% of their goal by the end of this week.
